Senegal started their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on a high note, beating Gambia 3-0 in the opening match of Group C.

The current African champions took an early lead in the game, with their first goal coming off the foot of Pape Gueye in the 4th minute, with Sadio Mane delivering the assist.

The game continued with no other goal, despite efforts by the Gambian team to level the score.

Instead, a late tackle in the added time of the first half saw Ebou Adams receive a red card, reducing the Gambia side to 10 men.

Entering the second half, Senegal wasted no time to add to their tally, with Lamine Camara drilling the ball into the bottom corner to double his side’s lead just before the hour mark.

Camara added another in the 86th minute to seal off the win, as he becomes the highest goal scorer in the tournament so far.

Senegal now top Group C, taking off from where they stopped in the last edition of the competition.

Meanwhile, Cameroon will face Guinea later today, by 6:00pm.
