Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is personally covering the costs for 30 members of his backroom staff and their families to attend the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao.
This follows the club’s decision not to subsidize staff attendance, sources confirmed to ESPN.
United face Tottenham Hotspur on May 21, with a Champions League place on the line.
However, the club has continued enforcing cost-cutting measures, including up to 200 job cuts and has opted to offer only two purchase-only tickets per staff member from their 15,000 allocation for the final.
Amorim, who joined United from Sporting CP in November and brought key staff with him, reportedly intervened when told coaches and support staff would need to fund their own attendance.
He has since paid for their match tickets and travel, ensuring each individual can bring up to two guests.
The gesture stands in stark contrast to Paris Saint-Germain, who recently announced plans to cover full travel expenses for 600 staff attending their Champions League final in Munich later this month.
Amorim’s move has been widely seen as a show of gratitude for his team’s loyalty during a turbulent six months at Old Trafford.
