Rúben Amorim has sounded the alarm ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League semifinal second leg, warning that a 3-0 first-leg advantage over Athletic Club may not be enough if his team fails to maintain focus.
Haunted by United’s erratic form, both domestically and in Europe, Amorim refused to celebrate early.
“Sometimes during the game we are one team and then we lose our mind a little bit,” he admitted, pointing to the near-collapse against Lyon and a mental breakdown at Brentford as cautionary tales.
Amorim stressed that one goal, one mistake, could swing momentum disastrously.
“Anything is possible. A sending-off, a VAR call, a goal out of nothing, we have to suffer to go through. We are ready to suffer.”
Despite leading in Europe, United’s domestic form has nosedived. With 16 league losses, their worst tally in 35 years, Amorim conceded a harsh reality: “We could be the worst Premier League team ever to win a European title. That’s how this season feels.”
The Europa League remains United’s final shot at redemption. A place in the final, and an unlikely route back into the Champions League is at stake.
