The Opportunity

In this role of Manager, Digital Grid/OT Consulting, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide consulting services and offer expertise and guidance in Grid Operations Transformation with a focus on Operational Technologies (OT) such as Electric Distribution SCADA/Outage Management System (OMS)/Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), Distribution Automation (DA) and Enterprise OT-IT Integration.
  • Manage and/or participate in a team of business and technology consultants in defining strategies and roadmaps, developing solutions and requirements, and supporting clients with their digital transformation needs (technology, business processes, data, and organizational readiness)

This role has 80% delivery performance goal and 20% business development performance goal

Key Responsibilities

Delivery Responsibilities:

  • Manage client engagement for complex, transformational programs
  • Support development of business and technical strategy, business case and implementation plan for Grid Modernization and Grid Transformation across electric utilities
  • Lead client interviews and facilitate engagement among stakeholders
  • Work with clients to document and/or discover current and future states business processes
  • Provide functional and technical expertise in various aspects of Digital Grid, Grid Modernization and OT/SCADA
  • Perform and manage technical project work such as developing solution concepts, review of vendors’ design documents, requirements traceability
  • Support business requirements definition, request for proposal development
  • Support proposal evaluation, selection process, statement of work development and vendor contract negotiation
  • Lead and/or participate in system testing
  • Support or act as project manager to develop project plans, key milestones, and project control structure
  • Transfer knowledge, capabilities, and skills to improve others’ knowledge and skill levels

Business Development Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the business development process as a subject matter expert (SME)
  • Support proposals and business development with utility clients
  • Create and/or support publication of thought leadership in areas of Digital Grid, Operational Technologies, and Grid Modernization
  • Represent Black & Veatch at various industry conferences & events
  • Identify industry trends and value-adding services

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or similar Technical domain or a Master’s Degree
  • 7 years of experience in business and technology consulting, or relevant project implementation services as part of an OT/OMS/ADMS/SCADA vendor team
  • Extensive Knowledge of Electric utilities operations functions and associated processes
  • Deep knowledge of System Architecture concepts, IT/Computing infrastructure, Telemetry infrastructure & protocols, RTUs /PLCs, User Interface & Situational Awareness Trends, Information Storage & Retrieval technologies, and Operational Data Historian
  • Actively participated in at least two OT/SCADA projects through the complete lifecycle including requirements development, design, systems integration & implementation and testing
  • Familiarity with major industry trends and OT vendor solutions
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Applicants for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States and with Black & Veatch Management Consulting (i.e., H1-B visa, F-1 visa (OPT), TN visa or any other non-immigrant status)
  • Demonstrated expertise in Organizational Change Management, and Business Process Improvement
  • Professional certification such as Professional Project Manager (PMI-PMP), Professional Engineer (PE), or similar
  • Deep knowledge of and direct experience in two or more solution areas: ADMS, Outage Management System, Distribution Automation, DERMS, Substation Control and Protection systems.
  • Direct experience working for (with) electric generation, transmission, and/or distribution utilities; possessing advanced knowledge of their processes, operations functions, compliance & regulatory frameworks, and value chains.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience
  • 7+ years experience in a business/consulting environment
