What You’ll Do Here:
Administration

  • Preparation and monitoring of the department budget.
  • Prepare and / or approve Employee Requisitions for additional staff as required.
  • Conduct prospective employee interviews and, in conjunction with HR, set appropriate salary level.
  • Review employee performance and facilitate goal-setting to support departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Facilitate staff training and professional development and monitor progress.
  • Prepare and implement department succession plan / staffing plan.

Technical signatory for Aecon Nuclear on Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Certificate of Authorization.

  • Provide input for employee salary merit increases and performance bonuses.
  • Review/approve staff travel and travel expense reports per policy.
  • Establish engineering tool requirements (hardware and software) and associated budgets with IT.
  • Review and approve purchase of industry codes and standards.
  • Responsible for preparation and approval of engineering procedures.
  • Prepare monthly reports as required.

Technical Leadership

  • Technical lead at meetings with Senior Management and Customers as required.
  • Assume overall responsibility for engineering oversight of sublet engineering suppliers. Hold review meetings toidentify and quantify technical risks.
  • Ensures all engineering activities within Aecon Nuclear Engineering comply with the Professional Engineers Actof Ontario
  • Provide advice and support to Project Engineering staff during project execution
  • Support resolution of complex or unusual engineering problems.
  • Support the evaluation and qualification of Design (Engineering) Service Providers (DSP’s) on Aecon’s ApprovedSuppliers List (ASL).
  • Ensure technical offerings and solutions consider constructability and are cost effective.
  • Proposal Preparation/Sales and Marketing Support
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations for internal and external customers.
  • Attend meetings with Sales, Proposal Management, Purchasing and Estimating.
  • Draft proposal engineering schedule and proposal technical strategy.
  • Prepare and / or Review Technical portions of the Proposal as required.
  • Prepare/approve engineering load boards and man-hour estimates.
  • Ensure product offering complies with standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of risk assessments.
  • Review / approve technical deviations/clarifications for bid submission.
  • Project Support
  • Support selection of Design Service Providers as required.
  • Monitor Design Service Provider cost and schedule performance.
  • Support engineered equipment RFP, bid evaluation and vendor selection as required
  • Monitor Aecon engineering budgets, schedule, execution plans and strategies.
  • Work with Proposal and Project Management to develop project execution plans and schedules.
  • Provide support and mentoring to Project Engineering and Project Coordinator staff during project execution.
  • May be required to address specific technical issues at a Senior Management or Customer level.

New Product Development

  • Work with Business Development to determine technology needs and direction.
  • Support Small Modular Reactor (SMR) program.
  • Approve design development and prototype testing requirements for first of a kind initiatives.
  • Initiate and / or participate in formal and informal (peer) design reviews
  • Prepare / approve patent applications.
  • What you will bring to the team:
  • Engineering Degree with P. Eng. designation
  • Ideally 10-15 years experience in the Power Generation Industry with knowledge of nuclear plant construction
  • and operation
  • Knowledge of CSA and ASME codes related to nuclear power plants and associated equipment
  • Previous Management and / or supervisory experience
