Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers has clinched the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership Golden Boot, edging out closest challengers Simon Murray and Daizen Maeda on the final day of the season.
The Nigerian international struck in the second minute of Rangers’ 2-2 draw with Hibernian to register his 18th league goal of the campaign.
That early finish proved decisive, as Murray failed to find the net in Dundee’s 2-0 win over St. Johnstone, while Celtic’s Maeda also ended the season on 16 goals.
Dessers’ form in the season run-in was crucial, scoring in five straight matches to pull clear at the top of the scoring charts.
His consistency saw him score against ten different Premiership sides, including title rivals Celtic and top-half mainstays like Hearts and Aberdeen.
This marks the third Golden Boot of Dessers’ career. He was top scorer in the Eredivisie with Heracles Almelo in 2019/20 and also led the UEFA Conference League scoring charts with ten goals in 2021/22.
He becomes the first Rangers player to win the Golden Boot since Alfredo Morelos and succeeds Hearts’ Lawrence Shankland as the league’s top marksman.
The 29-year-old’s clinical edge was a key asset for Rangers in a campaign that saw them fall short in the title race but remain competitive across all fronts.
