Barcelona president Joan Laporta leaves fans speculating over a potential move for Erling Haaland, despite the striker having recently signed a mammoth 10-year contract extension with Manchester City.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, Laporta hinted that the door isn’t fully closed on the club’s long-standing interest in the Norwegian striker.

“Can Barcelona sign Erling Haaland? Nothing is impossible. But we’re not thinking about that right now. He also just signed a new contract.”

Laporta had previously eyed Haaland as the marquee signing to headline the grand reopening of the renovated Spotify Camp Nou, but Barcelona’s ongoing financial constraints forced a pause in pursuit.

Haaland’s recent contract renewal until 2034 was widely seen as a deterrent to potential suitors.

However, Laporta’s statement could be interpreted as a signal that Barça are watching the situation closely, prepared to act should an opportunity arise.

Barcelona, fresh off a domestic treble under their new regime, face Athletic Club on May 25 in their final match of the 2024/25 campaign.
