<p> The Department of Anthropology and the Institute for the Study of International Development (ISID) at McGill University invite applications for a jointly appointed Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in the Anthropology of Development, effective August 1, 2024. We seek candidates whose work is centrally concerned with the critical exploration of development, broadly defined. The successful candidate will bring ethnographic and anthropological insights to timely issues concerning development in ways that also speak to and illuminate foundational anthropological concerns. Theoretical and geographical areas are open. Areas of research may include (but are not limited to): race and racism; economic anthropology; political economy; structural inequalities; rural livelihoods; environment; indigenous studies; gender and sexuality. Competitive applicants must have outstanding records of teaching and research and demonstrate high potential for developing strong research programs supported by external funding. The successful candidate will be expected to teach an introductory course in the anthropology of development and core courses for the new MA program in development studies (hosted at ISID) and to develop courses at all levels in their areas of specialization. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing the new MA program in International Development and exhibit a commitment to service in both units and at the university.</p>
<p> Applicants should have already completed the PhD or be very near completion. Appointment is expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor, but appointment at a higher rank is possible under exceptional circumstances.</p>
