Popular writer Hymar David shares his observations in incident involving a UNIZIK female student who assaulted her lecturer.
It would be recalled that a UNIZIK student identified as Goddy Mbakwe Precious had assaulted her lecturer, Dr Chukwudi Okoye for interrupting her video.
The video which has gone viral has sparked mixed reactions on social media with various folks giving their varied assessment.
A notable writer, Hymar David took to his Facebook page to share the three things he observed after watching the video.
While he identified the various moments the lady fell guilty of the drama, he pointed out the one mistake the lecturer did which was going back after the lady had said something to him.

“On this issue of the Unizik student allegedly assaulting a lecturer. 5 things came to my mind immediately I watched the video on X and read the initial comments.
1. Claiming the man pushed her is an unnecessary lie. He clearly tapped her back and added “excuse me”. Her initial reaction to that gesture set the tone for everything else. And that’s what a lot of people are ignoring. You dey road for school building, older person wan pass come tap your shoulder/back, add ‘excuse me’ join and your reaction is to vex, shoot him an evil look and say something like “see as this lecturer push me” (not sure i got this part right
My point here is from the video we watched which showed the genesis, the lecturer was polite and respectful, the girl was rude and could be said to be in confrontational mode.

2. The comments of students in the department and those who know the man said a lot. A lot of us have nothing good to say about most of our lecturers. In fact a lot of Nigerian students will waste no time pouring fuel to the fire if na one lecturer wey notorious for one kain behaviour. But for students to be saying stuff like “and this man is very chill o” “He’s the most unproblematic lecturer in the department”. For students, not just random ones, but who have experienced him to come to the defence of a Nigerian lecturer, put together with the video where he maintained a composed demeanour throughout the encounter, not raising his hands on her, at this point the optics is 2-0 in his favour.
3. She claimed he tried to strip her naked and repeatedly grabbed at her breasts (when you get physical with a woman, irrespective of whether you are the victim, you have to understand that this accusation or it’s rape variation if una two dey indoors is going to come). But in the video, we are looking at them tussling over her phone, and eyewitness accounts haven’t come out to corroborate her claims. His statement was that he walked back (most likely she said something loud enough for him to hear) and asked her to delete the video where he obviously appeared in. A request which shouldn’t have been an issue for her( especially as she already knew he was a lecturer even though she lied later in her statement that she didn’t know)
On this one I believe the lecturer goofed by walking back. He should probably have either ignored or taken her name and department to file a report. It was his coming back to a situation he initially gracefully moved away from that kickstarted the physical aspect of the issue.

4. When stuff like this happens, two camps always fall out.
Camp A: Would he do that if it was abroad?
Camp B: This generation doesn’t have respect.
Two foolish camps.
Camp A foolish because they like to ignore Nigerian contexts and Nigerian realities and use extreme examples not related to push nonsense. Inside that same abroad they have their own dysfunctions, their own rubbish and their own issues. You forget Abroad isn’t one dimensional. What happens in one abroad sef, it cannot happen in another abroad. “Can he try it abroad?” But they will leave the abroad where dem fit talk “Can she try it abroad”
Camp B people are always pretending that the dysfunction didn’t exist in their day. Like no be for JSS3 that year wey boys dey follow teacher do hand-to-hand combat inside class for AGS wey I go? Wey boys dey bring juju come class. Wey babe for SS1 go report teacher flog am to her boyfriend. That one go come school fight. E go turn another thing and police go come pack boys.
5. If she is expelled it wouldn’t be because he’s a lecturer or because of power show. It would be because she did it to herself.
And if she’s not expelled it would be an unsafe environment for her to school. If her mama like let her be the VC, she would definitely be targeted. Her results go miss, her grades go low. Dem fit miraculously find expo for her body for exams. Students in his department loyal to the lecturer go show am dem own. The school administration themselves will mark her.
She’s done in that place. And, I dare say, in plenty public universities in Nigeria. Which isn’t a good thing because e no suppose be cult. But it is what it is unfortunately.
