Job Description

We are searching for an experienced writer to join our Marketing team. You will use your passion for writing to create engaging copy, collaborate with a design team and be responsible for meeting the requirements of the project briefs while adhering to the Lee Valley brand guidelines for copy, voice and style.

Reporting to the Creative Director, Marketing Communications, you will be part of the Creative Services team. A fast-paced environment, with tight deadlines, schedule target dates and the opportunity to write for a multiple purposes including product description, website needs, SEO, SEM, email campaigns, retail signage, ADOA or any other Marketing purpose.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write clear and engaging content for describing woodworking, gardening and home products that aligns to brand voice and guidelines.
  • Produce engaging, straightforward content adapted to different advertising channels such as email, websites, digital and print ads, and catalogs. Maintain consistency and brand voice across all channels.
  • Implement SEO best practices to ensure content is search engine-optimized for our target audiences.
  • Knowledge of writing to meet AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) standards.
  • Collaborate with other team members, such as graphic designers, subject matter experts, marketers, and project managers to gather input and feedback for content development that supports the project brief.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in writing for B2C audiences.
  • Present copy concepts and final deliverables to internal team.
  • Revise copy based on internal and client feedback.

Requirements

  • University degree or 3-year college diploma in English, creative writing, journalism or related humanities field.
  • 5-years related writing experience.
  • Exceptional writing and research skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • A passion for storytelling. You are creative, curious about your subjects, and can write short or long-form copy. Familiarity writing for print and digital marketing campaigns.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with keyword search methods as well as SEO tools.
  • Knowledge of AODA requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills.
  • An analytical mind with a problem-solving attitude.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a high-volume workload often requiring short turnaround times.
  • A portfolio of copywriting and other marketing samples, targeting B2C.
  • A writing exercise may be requested should you be contacted for an interview.
