President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed the Nigerian Armed Forces as the nation’s heroes and reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to their welfare and support.

Speaking on Thursday at the commissioning of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks and other Army facilities in Abuja, Tinubu expressed gratitude for their sacrifices. “You are our heroes, and I thank you for what you’ve done for this country,” he said.

The President emphasized the importance of enhancing the welfare of military personnel, pledging continuous support for the men and women in uniform.

The newly inaugurated Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks is a state-of-the-art facility designed to address the accommodation challenges faced by Army personnel in Abuja.

The project, initiated on November 26, 2022, by Major General Philip Eromosele and fully funded under the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, was completed on January 9, 2025, under the leadership of Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.

The barracks include:

  • 16 Major General Quarters
  • 34 Brigadier General Quarters
  • 60 Major-Colonel Flats
  • 60 Lieutenant-Captain Flats
  • 180 Senior NCO Flats
  • 264 Corporal-and-Below Flats
  • Worship centers, sports facilities, and a powerhouse

Tinubu also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Armed Forces Complex in Asokoro, Abuja, designed to enhance the operational efficiency of the military.

Dignitaries at the event included National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Defence Badaru Abubakar, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, alongside service chiefs and other top officials.
