Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Team Lead, Naval Architecture & Structures Team Lead.
This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English. Qualifications:
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or related engineering field with 5+ years of relevant Engineering Experience.
· Meets the pre-requisites to eventually achieve Professional Engineering status with Engineers Nova Scotia.
· Experience:5+ years of experience working on naval ship design, commercial shipbuilding, or other large military procurement programs
· Two plus years leading or managing technical teams work assignments.
· Experience defining, managing, verifying, and validating vessel requirements.
· Experience reviewing subcontractor calculations, models, reports, and technical specifications.
· Experience working with classification society rules and classification societies to achieve plan approval and construction survey approval.
· Experience working with certification authorities for naval combatant vessels.
· Experience developing technical specifications for equipment and material acquisition.
· Strong personal time management skills
· Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in English, both orally and in writing
· Operational experience onboard naval vessels preferred.
All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead staff and embedded sub-contractors in the Naval Architecture & Structures Team with a focus on the coordination of team activities and the mentoring of junior team members
· Facilitate and oversee subcontractor development of functional and detailed design products related to the Naval Architecture and Structures work scope.
· Develop project management plans for assigned scope and manage using earned value management principles.
· Ensure that design products developed during the design phase consider facility limitations, capabilities, and build methodology.
· Support change management process associated with Naval Architecture and Structures design requirements.
· Participate in Integrated Product Teams in support of development of the CSC design.
· Develop and foster strong client and subcontractor(s) relationships.
· Participate in technical engagements and negotiations with equipment vendors.
· Identify high-level risks to the CSC Platform Design and work to develop and manage mitigation plans.
