<p><b>Job description</b>: Newcomer Programs &; Services has served newcomers and refugees in Toronto for over four decades. Its mandate is to help newcomers and refugees settle, adjust, and integrate into society. Funded by the three levels of government, WoodGreen Newcomer Programs &; Services operates English language training programs, settlement services, employment support programs, mentorship, networking activities, and social and recreational activities. Newcomer Programs &; Services is committed to providing friendly and professional services to all newcomers to help them connect with Canadian society and their new way of life.</p>
<p> <b>What You Will Do</b><br />
 </p>
<ul>
<li>Provide one-on-one support to newcomers and families in their settlement and integration process with focus on employment.</li>
<li>Work closely with newcomers to assess their skills, qualifications, and career goals. Develop personalized employment action plans to support their job search and career development.</li>
<li>Provide job search coaching, including resume writing, interview preparation, and job application support. Connect clients internally and externally with job coaches, employment advisor, and employment-related resources.</li>
<li>Identify skills gaps and recommend relevant training or certification programs to enhance clients&#8217; employability.</li>
<li>With the support of the WoodGreen employment team, navigate local employers and industry stakeholders to identify job opportunities for newcomers.</li>
<li>Offer guidance on workplace culture and employment rights to help clients navigate the Canadian job market effectively.</li>
<li>Plan, develop, facilitate, and evaluate group programs and activities, including online workshops.</li>
<li>Maintain accurate, up-to-date records, including statistical data and complete reports, and enter data into relevant data management systems and meet the prescribed targets.</li>
<li>Collaborate with other WoodGreen teams and agencies to plan services to meet these needs.</li>
<li>Actively works with schools, libraries, community organizations, recreational centres, faith organizations, local employers, health and family centres, local immigrant groups, malls, ethnic media and websites to maximize newcomers&#8217; and immigrants’ access to resources and to enhance capacity for services.</li>
<li>Attend community meetings, activities and events, and actively professionally promote WoodGreen.</li>
<li>Ensure the organization&#8217;s anti-racism objectives and community development principles are achieved within the program.</li>
<li>Participates in regular supervisory sessions with the Manager of Settlement Services.</li>
<li>Performs other related duties as required from time to time.</li>
</ul>
<p> <b>What You Bring to the Team</b><br />
 </p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in social work, Education, or a related discipline</li>
<li>Minimum of two (2) years experience working one-on-one to provide employment-focused settlement services to newcomers, including refugees.</li>
</ul>
<p> What Will Set You Apart<br />
 </p>
<ul>
<li>Strong knowledge of resources for all newcomers, including refugees</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of newcomer employment is required.</li>
<li>Fluency in a second language is a vital asset.</li>
<li>Experience working with low-income, multi-racial, multi-lingual immigrant and refugee communities.</li>
<li>Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and effective communication with clients, staff, volunteers, and agency partners.</li>
<li>Cultural sensitivity and ability to communicate with clients from diverse cultures and backgrounds.</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience in case management and supportive counselling.</li>
<li>Knowledge and experience of employment practices and the Canadian job market</li>
<li>Experienced in workshop development, evaluation, and facilitation.</li>
<li>Strong organizational/planning skills and ability to meet deadlines.</li>
<li>Strong technology and documentation skills to inform the program and meet organizational and funder requirements.</li>
<li>Available to work weekend and evening hours and at multi-sites.</li>
<li>Due to WoodGreen&#8217;s multi-site locations, we reserve the right to relocate the incumbent to another site, in the same position performing the same duties, as may dictated by program needs. Reasonable notice of such site relocation will be given. This position will be required to work at satellite office in Toronto.</li>
