Position Overview

The Developer Ecosystem team is looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to support building our Developer Portal (Backstage). You will help reduce complexity and promote collaboration and time to market of our software engineering teams and help develop automated self-service solutions, deploy the best tools, engineering best practices.

You work independently and can lead projects through completion. You will work with React/TypeScript SMEs that can perform business/software analysis driving the creation of custom plugins and integrations to enhance the developer portal experience, having cloud native experience with AWS.

You will report to a Senior Manager, Software Development.

This remote is based in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document software, and enhance existing components to ensure that software meets our needs
  • Apply technical expertise to resolve challenging programming projects in a distributed environment and contribute to the design and architecture to enable secure, scalable, and maintainable software
  • Build high-quality code (e.g. React components, Plug-ins for Backstage) following unit testing and test-driven development
  • Passionate about learning new technologies and working on different services/products
  • Collaborate with several partners to understand requirements, understand use cases and build towards a cohesive technical strategy
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a software developer
  • 2+ years of production experience building apps on large-scale cloud-based Infrastructure AWS using services such as ECS, S3, RDS, ElastiCache, DynamoDB, Lambda, CloudFormation, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with web technology stacks, JS frameworks (React is a must, Node.js) with TypeScript
  • Practical experience building RESTful, Micro-services or front-end experiences
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience building automation and CI/CD pipelines
  • Very good verbal, written communication and collaboration skills to connect with both business and technical teams
  • Write test plans and test cases, and to communicate bugs to engineers and other partners
  • Experience with Agile software development practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to open-source technologies (Backstage experience or plug-in development is a big plus)
  • Experience using Docker to build containerized applications
  • Understanding of object-oriented design and at least one modern backend framework (Java, C#, Python)
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python and PowerShell
  • Experience with load testing frameworks such as JMeter, Locust or BlazeMeter
