According to reports from the Italian media outlets identified as  La Repubblica and La Stampa, Pope Francis died due to a ‘cerebral haemorrhage’, possibly a stroke, which is said to be unrelated to the respiratory problems and pneumonia he suffered in February.

The Vatican has announced that Pope Francis will be laid to rest at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, located in Rome’s Esquilino district.

His body will lie in state in St. Peter’s Basilica to allow the faithful to pay their final respects.
