Job Description

The Metrology Manager UK is responsible for ensuring compliance with the requirements of ISO 17025, applicable to connection and management of test and calibration equipment within the scope of Bedford and Leyland laboratories. This is done in compliance with the Group’s metrology/quality management and financial management policies and processes.

This position can be based in Bedford or Leyland and will require regular travel between the 2 UK sites and occasional international travel.

MAIN ACTIVITIES:

  • Plan/organize internal and external calibration and verification activities and record them in CMMS.
  • Maintain and develop the internal calibration services level in accordance with the requirements of ISO 17025 and the specific criteria of the testing laboratory.
  • Advise and allow investments in measurement and test equipment in terms of metrology, IS connection and 17025 technical requirements, in line with end-use requirements.
  • Provide the wider business with advice, verify suitability and approve the purchasing of metrological equipment and services in line with end-use requirements
  • Allow approval and publishing of calibration certificates and delegating this responsibility in accordance with technical clearance.
  • Management of non-compliant work within his/her unit scope

Carrying out the tasks of a Unit Manager as defined in the UTAC employment guidelines within the scope of his/her METROLOGY UK responsibilities:

  • Lead and animate all unit activities
  • Develop Group strategy (especially metrology and quality) at unit level
  • Propose the unit business plan in support of his/her manager
  • Metrology budget ownership and control UK
  • Propose annual operating and investment budgets and ensure that they are adhered to throughout the year
  • Lead and manage unit staff (recruitment needs, training, appraisals, etc.)
  • Participate in the creation and implementation of the Operational Excellence plan in line with the objectives set
  • Make an overall contribution to the Operational Excellence of his/her activities, in particular compliance with the provisions and requirements of the Quality Management System
  • Ensure the safety of people and property in the business unit
  • Advise and help his/her employees to solve problems raised
  • Be responsible for the satisfaction of the unit internal and external customers

Carry out the tasks of a specialist as defined in the UTAC employment guidelines within the scope of his/her responsibilities METROLOGY UK:

  • Provide technical metrological support to the wider business units
  • -Promote the development of UTAC employees’ knowledge and skills by providing training (metrology, uncertainty, ISO 17025 system, etc.).
  • -Maintain and guarantee the right level of skills within the scope of expertise:
  • By supporting the operational teams
  • By formalising expertise to facilitate use/operations
  • Ensuring the deployment of requirements/protocols relating to his/her area of expertise
  • Providing consultancy or training services to customers, as required
  • Participate in drawing up the roadmap for his/her expertise area
