Manchester United are prepared to significantly reduce their asking price for Jadon Sancho this summer, amid Chelsea’s expected decision to pass on a permanent deal and fresh interest from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.
According to The Sun, United are willing to accept as little as £20 million for the 25-year-old winger, a steep markdown from the £73 million they paid Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
This comes as Chelsea, who currently have Sancho on loan, are reportedly looking to activate a £5m exit clause to avoid triggering their permanent purchase obligation.
With Stamford Bridge no longer a likely destination, Leverkusen have emerged as a possible suitor.
The Bundesliga club, who last season, secured the German title under Xabi Alonso, are said to be monitoring the situation.
However, any deal would hinge on Sancho accepting a substantial wage cut from his current £250,000-a-week salary, a figure far beyond Leverkusen’s pay structure.
Sancho, who reignited his form briefly during a mid-season return to Dortmund before being loaned to Chelsea, remains a high-risk asset.
His inconsistent performances and off-pitch issues at United have diminished his market value, but a return to Germany, where he previously thrived, could provide a much-needed reset.
He will be unavailable for Chelsea’s upcoming fixture against Manchester United due to Premier League loan rules, as the Blues continue to scramble for Champions League qualification.
