Apex Aluminum is a state-of-the-art aluminum extrusion factory located in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the equipment in the plant. They will perform a variety of duties which include:

assembling, installing, aligning, commissioning, maintaining, repairing, diagnosing, inspecting, dismantling, moving and decommissioning facility equipment.

The Maintenance Technician is also responsible for working with the rest of the maintenance team to complete a variety of tasks and preventative maintenance programs. This position will require working various shifts and overtime on a rotating shift basis. This position will also cover some duties related to that of building maintenance.

Duties Include:

  • Inspect, examine and troubleshoot equipment to find and investigate problems or breakdowns and to ensure that safety and quality standards are met.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance, such as cleaning, lubricating, adjusting or rebuilding hydraulics, pumps, pneumatic valves and seals.
  • Responsible for engaging in manufacturing support activities connected with the setup, installation and maintenance of production and related equipment. Designing and programming electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical control systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to install, dismantle, reassemble, replace, calibrate, repair, adjust, fabricate, lubricate, and maintain, systems and equipment as assigned.
  • Follow a Preventative Maintenance schedule.
  • Inspect electrical components for identifying defects, hazards, and/or need of repairs.
  • Perform equipment adjustments and changeovers as required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Have prior experience rebuilding diaphragm and centrifugal pumps.
  • Be a proficient trouble shooter of mechanical system.
  • Be comfortable performing maintenance calls independently or as part of a team.
  • Have experience troubleshooting and diagnosing low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Ability to perform electrical maintenance in an industrial facility.
  • Enjoy working in a high paced dynamic environment.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Comfortable working in a production area (temperature, humidity, noise etc.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal in English.
  • Ability to prioritize under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Be flexible and willing to work a rotating work schedule and overtime as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Red Seal Certification in Millwright and/or 5 years working as a Maintenance Technician in medium – large facilities.
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to recommend corrective action and implement required repairs.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Basic welding skills: MIG, TIG, ARC, and Gas Welding will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Must have a good understanding of electrical, mechanical, PLC and hydraulic systems.
