<p><b>SCOPE</b><br />
 Reporting to the Manager, Networks, Security, and HPC, Academic Information Technology Services(AITS), the incumbent provide IT instructional support for the practical training of students in the area such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, cyber-security and advanced networking, including the use of HPC. The incumbent works as part of the NAG/HPC team to deploy and support IT systems and services, and their networking, ensuring that these systems are secure, reliable and adhere to all relevant institutional standards in support of teaching and research. This includes providing user support for HPC schedulers, HPC teaching tasks and the installation and configuration of research servers.</p>
<p><b>PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Provide primary instructional support for Gina Cody School (GCS) students including the use of the Faculty&#8217;s HPC cluster facilities and other related learning &; teaching services.</li>
<li>Provide guidance and training to other IT support staff (e.g. Service Desk), teaching and research assistants</li>
<li>Resolve server and service problems reported by the University community and provide effective remedies.</li>
<li>Ensure smooth system(s) operation which includes systems monitoring and performance tuning activities.</li>
<li>Maintain and support in-house systems.</li>
<li>Maintain awareness of server and other infrastructure technology and software. Recommend assimilation of potentially useful products or services into supported product line.</li>
<li>Evaluate users&#8217; current hardware and software implementations and recommend appropriate improvements for IT-related teaching and research.</li>
<li>Implement operating system and application updates and upgrades, including applying patches.</li>
<li>Install new server, networking, and infrastructure software and equipment. Ensure that systems are secure and reliable. Collaborate with clients to define and implement operational procedures (e.g. maintenance windows, backup schedules, monitoring software).</li>
<li>Assist in the selection and purchase of server &; infrastructure hardware and software.</li>
<li>Assist in producing documentation.</li>
<li>Offer onsite support for client research server computers when required.</li>
<li>Undertake other tasks as required.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>QUALIFICATIONS</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Computer Science or a related field with two to four years of relevant experience.</li>
<li>ITIL Certification is an asset.</li>
<li>Excellent knowledge of HPC schedulers such as AGE (formerly UGE), SLURM, etc.</li>
<li>Excellent knowledge of and experience installing, configuring, optimizing and securing server systems such as Linux (RHEL), Ubuntu, etc.</li>
<li>Excellent knowledge in programming using languages such as C++, Python, etc.</li>
<li>Good spoken (Level 4: able to give and understand detailed explanations and descriptions) and basic written English (Level 3: able to prepare short, routine correspondence); Basic spoken and written French (level 3).</li>
<li>Excellent knowledge of and experience working with authentication, communications and collaboration systems.</li>
<li>Excellent knowledge of and experience working with network protocols (e.g., DHCP, DNS, Cisco-protocols)</li>
<li>Excellent knowledge of and working experience with Singularity, Docker, VMware or other server container or virtualization platforms.</li>
<li>Experience working with network devices as well as server and PC hardware (eg. RAM memory, disks).</li>
<li>Experience working within ITIL (or equivalent) framework (Incident Management Change Management, Release &; Deploy Management, Problem Management).</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team.</li>
<li>Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities.</li>
<li>Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.</li>
<li>Dedicated to providing exemplary customer service.</li>
