This position, in the Business Technology group of ATCO’s Technology organization, is responsible for visioning, designing and implementing IT automation technology that will be used to increase the performance, reliability and operational efficiency of ATCO’s diverse on-premise and cloud platforms. The role will be responsible for designing, implementing and leveraging automation technology and creative programming to develop tactical and strategic solutions to streamline operations. Acquiring data from diverse sources, correlating events, automating manual tasks and alert generation are all requirements of this position. The scope of automation opportunities spans servers, network and storage at ATCO’s data centers, cloud IaaS/PaaS/SaaS systems, and remote site operating environments.
What You Get To Do:
- Visioning, design and ongoing enhancements of an automation framework which connects diverse operational systems spanning server, storage and network in a hybrid environment with both on-premise and cloud systems.
- Develop and/or implement data capture systems to ingest system-wide events.
- Develop and/or implement event analysis, including correlation, to interpret events.
- Creating Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solutions to address system events to improve resiliency and availability and replace manual processes.
- Developing RPA tools and integrations for new business needs as opportunities arise.
- Proactively designing and implementing creative solutions to known system operations gaps.
- Work with service providers to introduce delivery and support service changes as required by business stakeholders or as enabled by evolving technology.
- Ongoing engagement with ATCO Technology stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain relationships with service provider(s), suppliers, ATCO Technology stakeholders and business stakeholders and establish productive communication channels.
- Maintain awareness of ATCO’s overall infrastructure, application and database delivery and support needs to understand long-term and day-to-day operational requirements.
- Engage with service providers’ day-to-day execution of delivery and support with attention to automation opportunities.
- Participate in projects as required to provide RPA tools to solution delivery.
- Participate in day-to-day infrastructure operations activities as required.
- Ongoing inspection of system logs, application and infrastructure incident tickets and related information sources for opportunities where automation will enhance availability and reliability.
- Ongoing review of existing RPA tools and processes for areas where improvements can be made.
- Maintain industry awareness where new tools and techniques can be brought to bear for ATCO.
- Maintain awareness of new infrastructure and applications to bring into automation scope.
- Ongoing engagement with service provider infrastructure and applications teams to identify process and support gaps that can be addressed through automation.
Who You Are:
- A bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Information Technology with ITIL training and certifications is preferred.
- 7-10 years of relevant experience is required.
- Strong analytical skills to assess and develop RPA requirements and workflows.
- Very strong problem-solving skills to be able to understand how automation needs to work, be able to debug through the development process, diagnose and remediate program bugs, and develop effective testing plans.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse IT delivery teams including network, server, storage, and application support teams.
- Experience operating within ITIL environment in adherence to ITIL processes.
- Experience leveraging CMDB to develop system awareness.
- Good to very good understanding of Windows and Unix operating systems (physical and virtual).
- Good to very good understanding of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS technologies.
- Very good to expert knowledge and experience programming in PowerShell and Python.
- Good to very good knowledge and experience programming in one or more of Java, Ruby, C# and other applicable languages.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Strong situational leadership, decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of business/technology trends and industry maturity.
- The ability to recognize technical and functional gaps and opportunities across IT infrastructure environments.
- The ability to effectively mentor and teach.
