Indian lawmaker and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member, MLA Gurpreet Gogi, has tragically died after accidentally shooting himself, suffering fatal head injuries.

According to reports, the incident occurred late Friday night, as confirmed by his family. Gogi was immediately taken to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The Punjab Police have verified the incident, describing it as an apparent accident. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja explained, “According to family members, Gurpreet Gogi accidentally shot himself, sustaining a bullet wound to the head. He was declared dead at the hospital, and his body is currently in the mortuary at DMC Hospital.”

A post-mortem examination will provide a definitive cause of death. “The post-mortem report will clarify the exact cause of death,” the DCP added. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to uncover the full details of the incident.

Gogi, who joined the AAP in 2022, gained recognition after defeating two-time Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu in the Ludhiana assembly elections.

This tragedy echoes a similar incident in 2019, when Carl Robinson, a candidate for the Mississippi state legislature, fatally shot his wife before taking his own life.

The sudden death of Gurpreet Gogi has left a significant void in Punjab’s political arena, with an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and constituents mourning his untimely demise.
