We are looking for a Mineral Exploration Manager Canada, who will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of mineral exploration projects across diverse terrains in Canada. Your role will involve leading a team of geologists, mineral experts, and field personnel to discover new growth options for the company. You will also play a key role in making strategic decisions, managing resources, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the success of our projects. This role will be pivotal to deliver the Canadian programs, but will also be an integral part of your leadership team to contribute to the cultural change whilst delivering business outcomes.

This role is a great opportunity for an Exploration Manager to lead a complex regional exploration team to deliver to the Rio Tinto Group capable of becoming large, low-cost, long life mines, through discovery, joint venture, and acquisition. The role has a strategic focus as well as regional accountability.

Reporting to the General Manager of Exploration and working in a collaborative environment, you will be:

  • Project Leadership: Lead and manage mineral exploration projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Team Management: Lead a multi-functional team of geologists, field personnel, and technical experts while fostering a culture of excellence and safety.
  • Planning: Develop and manage exploration plans with the Canadian team to develop exploration strategy project execution.
  • Data Analysis: Oversee geological data collection, analysis, and interpretation to advance or identify exploration opportunities.
  • Permitting and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all legal, safety, and environmental regulations, and oversee the permitting process for exploration and drilling activities.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Manage project budgets, allocate resources effectively, and optimize costs while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, government agencies, and local communities, to secure support and funding for exploration projects. Develop and manage commercial opportunities on 3-rd parity exploration projects.
  • Report and Documentation: A successful candidate would have experience in preparation of detailed technical reports presentations and project updates for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and challenges during exploration activities and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Technology Integration: Stay updated with the latest exploration technologies and tools and implement innovative approaches to improve project efficiency and accuracy.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related.
  • Relevant experience in mineral exploration, with a strong background in fieldwork.
  • Proven experience in managing exploration projects and drill programs.
  • Familiarity with Canadian mining regulations, permitting, and environmental guidelines.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with relevant geological software and data analysis tools.
