Job Summary

The role of Expert Data Designer is to lead the business requirements gathering, create metrics framework, create data definitions, business rules, data quality requirements, and design solutions that drive value. He/she will also supervise and maintain the Data Analytics practise within the team. The Expert Data Designer brings technical expertise to ensure the quality and accuracy of data, then process, design and present it in ways to help people, businesses, and organizations make better decisions. The role ensures data integrity and normalization, and oversees and designs the reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual, logical and physical data models to deliver the Analytics solutions.
  • Lead the source to target mapping definition to describe data transformations.
  • Design and develop analytics solution in Data Lake and Data Warehouse environments to support operational reporting.
  • Lead the practice, standards and best practices around data analytics design.
  • Performs design reviews.
  • Onboard, support and mentor new data designers.
  • Performs profiling and analyze data using SQL / Python on multiple sources: Oracle, Netezza, SQL-Server, Databricks, etc.
  • Assess and design data analytics components (data model, mapping, data flows, and transformations) to make sure they are well integrated and aligned with the data and technical architecture.
  • Lead the Troubleshooting of data issues within the business and presents solutions and recommendations.
  • Participate in the delivery and support of data quality and data consolidation initiatives.
  • Lead simplification initiatives to allow for more effective data design, and management.
  • Provide analytical support by developing dashboards and reports using Power BI or Tableau to deliver business insight.
  • Work with stakeholders including Architecture, Data Engineers, Product Management, DBAs, Infrastructure, Data & Design Teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.

Requirements

Experience

  • 10 years and more overall work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of analysis, data design and data modeling experience.
  • Strong experience in requirements gathering, process analysis and workflow modeling.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience in defining metric frameworks

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor’s degree specializing in Mathematics and Statistics / Computer Science / Business Analytics / or other quantitative field, related degree or equivalent experience

General Skills and Competencies

  • Expert ability to identify data gaps and assess end-to-end data requirements.
  • Excellent Communication skills to build alliances and gain consensus with key stakeholders.

Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • Advanced experience with data design tools (Erwin Data Modeler r9.8 or similar version)
  • Advanced experience with dimensional modeling techniques.
  • Exposure to Data modeling experience, and data architecture best practices.
  • Experience with relational database modeling techniques.
  • Advanced SQL skills to support data profiling, unit testing and data extraction.
  • Experience in Data Lake, Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence or relevant data environment; in either a development or a support role.
  • Experience using Azure Data Lake (ADLS), Azure Data Factory and Databricks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group.
  • Experience working with DevOps CI/CD. Azure DevOps or GitHub

Assets

  • Experience in real time data streaming and loading.
  • Experience modelling data for data science projects.
  • Experience working with Scale Agile Methodology (SAFe).
  • Experience working with Tableau or Power BI.
  • Experience with semi-structured and unstructured data.
  • Familiar with Data Lakehouse architecture.
  • Written presentation experience; presenting insights in plain language and images.
  • The ability to learn quickly, problem solve/troubleshoot, work independently and in a team.
  • Experience in leading and participating in business workshops
  • Ability to promote business intelligence, analytics, and reporting vision
  • Willingness to work on multiple projects at one time
