<p> We have an immediate opportunity for an Environmental Planner/Permitting Specialist to lead regulatory and permitting projects within our thriving environmental practice, where we support a broad range of renewable energy, transportation, and land development projects. Specific background and experience in wetland assessment, vegetation, and soil classification is of particular interest.</p>
<p> The successful applicant will be a professional biologist and bring experience in providing multi-disciplinary environmental assessments and permitting projects for our public and private sector clients. They will have experience with regulatory and stakeholder consultation, coordinating with technical teams and contractors, leading technical deliverables, and supporting public consultation. As well, this position can offer an interesting variety of field and office work on a diverse range of projects that include biophysical inventories, environmental assessments, and monitoring of environmental impacts. Although the position will be based in either Calgary or Edmonton, travel throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Northern Canada is anticipated.</p>
<p><b>Responsibilities:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Lead the regulatory coordination and permitting of projects in a dynamic work environment, have strong critical thinking capabilities, and have a flexible approach to problem-solving.</li>
<li>Project manage multi-disciplinary projects.</li>
<li>Frequent and effective interaction with clients, regulatory agencies, other team members, and the public.</li>
<li>Developing and/or conducting biophysical assessments with a focus on vegetation, wetlands, and/or soils.</li>
<li>Preparing reports related to siting evaluation, environmental planning/permitting, environmental reviews, environmental protection/mitigation plans.</li>
<li>Prepare proposals including scopes of work, cost estimates and formal proposal submissions.</li>
<li>Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and technical experts in biology and environmental science.</li>
<li>Lead, mentor, and support junior team members.</li>
<li>Travel to project sites across Western Canada (occasional).</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Qualifications</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, environmental sciences, or a related field.</li>
<li>Professional designation (i.e., P.Biol or equivalent)</li>
<li>A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with environmental assessments and municipal, provincial, and federal regulatory compliance/permitting.</li>
<li>Strong knowledge and practice in wetlands in the Prairies including assessments, mitigation, and monitoring</li>
<li>Be a wetland practitioner as directed under the Alberta Wetland Policy and on track towards the Authenticating Professional designation</li>
<li>Demonstrated proficiency with industry standard resources, tools (e.g., the Digital Regulatory Assurance System [DRAS], OneStop, etc.) and best practices as well as provincial environmental legislation and policy (proficiency under municipal and federal jurisdictions is considered an asset).</li>
<li>Have excellent research, analytical, writing, oral communication, and organizational skills.</li>
<li>Work independently, communicate clearly and work closely with team members located across other offices.</li>
<li>Have strong project management skills in successfully scoping and managing project teams and deliverables.</li>
<li>Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project is necessary to perform the responsibilities of this position.</li>
<li>A strong track record in Health and Safety management.</li>
<li>Ability to travel and work in remote locations.</li>
</ul>
