Program Overview

Individual in this position will provide employment counselling and supports to our pre-arrival programs like Project Welcome, Canada InfoNet as well as other pre and post arrival group mentoring initiatives funded by Immigration Refugees Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Canada InfoNet is a pan-Canadian online program offering pre-arrival services to internationally educated persons. Program provides employment preparation, occupation specific mentoring and Canadian workplace culture support.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual to join our multi-lingual pre-arrival team. This dynamic role requires effective organizational abilities, flexibility to remain client-focused while achieving program targets and the ability to coordinate with multiple project partners across Canada. Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Conduct intake and in-depth assessments online to determine client program eligibility and create Employment Action Plans
  • Case manage clients, provide employment counselling, sector and province-specific labour market information
  • Facilitate on-line job search related workshops for small groups and deliver Zoom presentations to large audience of clients and other stakeholders
  • Assist clients with resume building, conduct mock interviews via skype, and provide coaching to develop the clients’ skill set and knowledge; aid with adaptation to Canadian business culture
  • Research and identify potential referral sources abroad, support establishing of referral arrangements and act as a liaison with referring agents
  • Support further upgrading of JVS Toronto online mentoring platform
  • Develop manuals and online learning content for Learning Management system
  • Recruit mentors by leading information sessions and marketing the program via national outreach to employers, organizations, and social networks
  • Screen and match mentors/mentees, conduct online mentor/mentee orientation and secure mentoring matches
  • Case manage and monitor mentoring relationships to ensure mentee/mentor goals are met
  • Gather and analyze participant evaluations after program completion
  • Record and administer participant information/documentation collection
  • Assist in tracking participants’ progress and outcomes and preparing monthly and other reports as required Flexible hours / evenings / weekends are required for this position to accommodate international client, mentor and community groups’ needs and availability
  • Deliver train-the-trainer and information sessions to partner representatives regarding the project, mentoring platform and mentoring model
  • Deliver training and support to partners to establish and manage group mentoring programs
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to support them with recruiting, onboarding and engaging mentors

Flexible hours/ evenings / weekends may be required for this position. Some travelling may be required for the position as well.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Post Graduate Certificate in Career Counselling, Human Resources, Social Services, or related. International degrees must be evaluated for Canadian equivalency.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with newcomers
  • Proven Employment/Career Counselling expertise of minimum 4 years
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mentoring, settlement, and immigration
  • Good communication skills with strong English language written communication skills is a must
  • Strong technical skills, comfortable with online service delivery and using technology for various activities of the program. Proven ability to master new tools and technologies quickly.
  • Experience delivering training and information sessions online
  • Technical expertise in excel, word, online meeting and webinar tools like GoTo Webinar, Zoom etc
  • Proven experience providing case management to high volumes of clients
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to multitask, strong ability to adapt to client and community groups’ schedules
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain relationships
  • Effective research skills and knowledge of the Canadian labour market
  • A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position

  • Some exposure to technology projects – building new tools and platforms
  • Exposure to social media platforms and creating content for them
