Job description: The Opportunity:
Reporting directly to the Shovel Reliability Supervisor, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing shovel reliability through various electrical improvement projects, cost-savings initiatives, hands-on troubleshooting, and providing technical support to our team of field electricians.
Key Accountabilities:
- Monitor and inspect shovel electrical systems, implementing corrective measures or improvements for identified deficiencies
- Identify and implement improvements to maintenance practices and procedures, PM strategies, and operating standards to consistently and safely meet shovel availability targets
- Utilize AutoCAD to create and maintain electrical drawings
- Use specialized testing equipment such as the WinDaq Data Acquisition tool or SE-400 Startco Ground-Fault Relay tester
- Support technicians and equipment vendors in troubleshooting difficult or complex equipment problems and improvement initiatives
- Ensure technicians have the proper tooling and PPE, and coordinate testing of PPE and safety equipment and supervise specialized electrical tasks carried out by contract service as needed
- Ensure the proper operation and testing of equipment safety relays (Startco)
- Coordinate with planning to identify equipment failures with warranty potential. Conduct off-site vendor visits to assess equipment failures for root cause analysis and repair recommendations

- Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta – Albian Oil Sands site
- Shift schedule: 7×7 – 12 hours per shift, rotation starting on Wednesdays

Skills & Qualifications:
- Be a certified red seal electrician or an electrical engineer with a Grade 12 Diploma
- Have significant mining experience, specifically related to Electric Shovels (Bucyrus, Caterpillar, P&H)
- Ensure safety standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code, M421 (Use of electricity in mines), Z462 (Workplace electrical safety), and the OH&S act are complied with
- Demonstrate self-drive, strong time management, and organization skills
- Have experience with low and medium AC voltage systems (120V, 600V, 13,800V) as well as 12-24V DC systems
- Have strong competency with computers including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Maximo, networking and AutoCAD
- Have significant experience with PLC systems, including Siemens Step7 and Rockwell RSLogix 5000
