Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Embrace the culture of business support by partnering and working with the Hotel Leaders for achieving optimal operating performance and returns for ACCORHOTELS and Owners without losing sight of all measured KPI’s
  • Review financial performance of hotel department, analysis of variances, forecasts and budgets of the hotel.
  • Promote, drive and maximize the GOP Theoretical Flow Through concept across the hotel.
  • Direct, administer, guide, develop and control all aspects of accounting and financially related activities of the hotel which includes; payroll, credit, systems management, cash management, food and beverage cost control, receiving, purchasing, food stores, yield management, capital planning and budgeting.
  • Actively involved in the development of business and strategic plans.
  • Oversight of books of account and supporting data as a basis for preparation of the financial operating and statistical statements and reports required for the Management, Corporate Office and Ownership in accordance with Corporate Policy and Procedures.
  • Co-ordination and preparation of annual Operating and Capital budgets, strategic plans, annual audits, financial reports, analysis of budgets, short-term forecasts, planning support and financial interpretation.
  • Lead in the identification and development of profit improvement opportunities, development and implementation of benchmarking techniques that will enhance revenues while improving productivity and cost efficiencies.
  • Regularly review and analyze reports from buying programs for hotels within the region and improve costs by driving compliance and delivery efficiencies.
  • Analyze and review trends related to operating techniques, ensuring optimum utilization of resources and maximum R.O.I.
  • Provide accurate and complete financial and management reports on a timely basis to Regional management within the region and the corporate office.
  • Manage all the technology activities within the hotel including computer hardware and office equipment management as well as all aspects of software application, current and future.
  • Participate in the growth and success of the property through active and creative involvement in the executive decision making progress and the hotel’s culture development.
  • Recognition and promotion of opportunities to maximize return by employing alternative uses of resources.
  • Lead and develop employees within the Accounting team and encourage ongoing training and development for both the employee and leadership team; including annual and period performance reviews and performance management

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Comply with all laws and fiscal regulations of the hotel area locations, which effect financial matters of the property which includes seeing that proper permits and licenses are obtained for such things as liquor licenses, sellers permit, business licenses, etc.
  • Protect the owners and the management company’s interest in the hotel assets and operations. Director of Accounting & Business Support should be the guardian of the Hotel Management Agreements (HMA). Hotel Management Agreement terms, priorities, performance tests and fees, and distribution requirements are completely understood and managed for the hotel.
  • Monitor and manage the safe keeping of all hotel leases & contracts and any other legal records and documents, which may affect the financial status of the hotel. Such documents are to be listed and keep current on the Critical Date List by each individual hotel.
  • Conduct regular operations risk assessments, establish a risk register for the hotels and assist with preparing an action plan addressing the mitigation of identified risks, subject to regular reporting and follow up on the execution of the risk action plan. They shall ensure the timing and accurate reporting of all incidents in accordance with Company protocol.

Control and Policies & Procedures

  • Thorough knowledge, understanding, and proper application of policies and procedures.
  • Be the champion to drive best practice and support the hotel to achieve required policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for the development, documentation, and maintenance of control systems, within the Hotels, to ensure compliance.
  • Review and approval of incentive payments for hotel leaders and employees.
  • Ensure cash flow is at or above minimum required as per HMA or is adequate to meet the needs of the hotel operations within the region.
  • Be responsible for any remediation action plans a result of all internal and external audits.
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring credit and collection procedures and guidelines pursuant to “adopted” corporate credit policies.

People and Talent Management

  • Work within the ACCORHOTELS’s Human Resource Management System to ensure the departmental performance of hotel staff in the Region is productive.

Qualifications

  • Business/Accounting Bachelor’s Degree. CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of work experience as an Assistant Director of Finance, ideally in multiple progressive, in size and complexity, hotels.
  • Experienced in all areas of finance and accounting; capital project management, financial reporting and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and understand a variety of internal and external economic and financial issues which impact the business, to analyze data and forecast future business trends, and to develop effective financial plans based on businesses assessments in multiple locations.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading & developing people and teams. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written to address all levels within the organization and ability to gain consensus and influence others.
  • Demonstrated experience with accounting system or similar financial software for the purpose of financial reporting, analysis and presentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of finance, budgeting and accounting processes and regulations with demonstrated knowledge of capital project management, standards and techniques, and IFRS/GAAP regulations and procedures.
  • Superior skills in computer technology and applications.

  • Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
