Job Summary

The Director, Distribution Services is responsible for leading the successful operation of the Transload and Cogema business units. The role is focused on strategic and operations planning and execution. The position oversees the development and implementation of operations to ensure the achievement of annual corporate and business unit objectives. In addition, the incumbent interacts with all facets of the operations on a daily basis, as well as serves as a representative for CN to multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities

Organic Growth

· Develop distribution services strategies and policies for profitable growth

· Promote rail revenue growth through distribution services network of CN owned and operated facilities and third-party sites

· Work with cross-functional colleagues to ensure first and last mile solutions are realized from concept to operating to contribution in a timely manner, delivering measurable value

· Meet with industry experts and customers to maintain a deep knowledge of the competitive landscape, and the strategies used to gain profitable market share to formulate plans to mitigate risk of losing business

· Develop rapid deployment capabilities to meet spot move demands and provide emergency transload services as required by the Sales and Marketing teams

· Communicate clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and accountability to develop a solid team of operational Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)

Strategic and Operations Planning

· Act as a resource for leaders regarding all activities within their responsibility

· Coordinate cross-departmental activities to maximize transport productivity strategies

· Carry out planning and budgeting to optimize distribution services, as well as transportation issues

· Develop a Capital Expenditure (CapEx) plan that maintains the level of business required to meet customer demands plan and implement strategic partnerships

· Interface with cross-functional teams to address problems in a timely manner

Distribution Services Management

· Oversee network of CN or IBS operated facilities, including associated profit and loss statements

· Interact and support sales and marketing efforts to grow revenues

Cogema Operations Management

· Oversee the efficient operation, performance, and improvement of the fleet, including recommendations for fleet composition

· Oversee strategies for effective and efficient utilization of all assets to meet customer demands, including a multi year capacity plan, developed in partnership with sales and marketing

· Review and manage the operating agreement with fleet operator

· Oversee all capital and operating budget allocated annually

· Align safety programs and vessel performance with CN’s business objectives

· Oversee the inventory movement against annual commercial lift plans for each top iron ore and stone accounts

· Maintain relationships with Vessel Operators and execution team

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires frequent travel (up to 60%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.) occasionally to visit client sites which require an appropriate level of security clearance. The role must adhere to safety compliance when visiting transload facilities and docks and may have minimal exposure to undesirable or disagreeable environmental conditions or hazards. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

Experience

Management

· Minimum 5 years of managerial experience

o Significant industry experience, specifically within a supply chain sales and marketing capacity

o Experience with distribution services operations

o Strong background of closing deals and experience leading and structuring large contracts

o Experience effecting change with a large customer base

o Experience with operating budget oversight

o Experience with forecasting and executing revenue, expense, and capital budgets

Education/Certification/Designation

· Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering or a related field
