The Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Friday granted bail to former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in the sum of ₦500 million.

According to reports, Presiding Judge Emeka Nwite ruled that Bello must provide two sureties in the same amount, who are required to swear to an affidavit of means and own properties located in Abuja.

The title documents for these properties will be verified by the court’s Deputy Chief Registrar.

As part of the bail conditions, Bello must surrender his international passport to the court and submit two recent passport photographs along with his sureties.

Justice Nwite also directed that Bello be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Center in Abuja until the bail conditions are met.

Bello pleaded not guilty to allegations of an ₦80 billion fraud brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC had arraigned him before Justice Nwite on a 19-count charge related to alleged money laundering.
