<p> The Community Ministries Worker provides holistic leadership and support to Community &; Family Services for Bulkley Valley Ministry Unit according to The Salvation Army&#8217;s Mission, Vision, and Values.</p>
<p> <b>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:</b></p>
<p> Community &; Family Services: </p>
<ul>
<li>Through empathetic care, assists individuals in determining an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process; facilitates effective problem-solving behaviors of the guest/family.</li>
<li>Prepares and meets with guests to distribute food hampers and other items as required.</li>
<li>May assist with Community Feeding Program meal prep, clean-up, and serving.</li>
<li>Prepares and submits reports and program evaluations as required.</li>
</ul>
<p> Foodbank Services: </p>
<ul>
<li>Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods.</li>
<li>May liaise with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g., social assistance, RCMP, parole, urgent situations)</li>
<li>May serve as receptionist, answering phones promptly and as necessary.</li>
<li>May call in employees as required to fill in for last-minute employee absences.</li>
<li>Gives input into orientating, training, and evaluating staff.</li>
<li>Oversees the coffee service schedule.</li>
<li>Provide appropriate assistance to guests when required.</li>
</ul>
<p> Administration, Program, and Other: </p>
<ul>
<li>Notifies the Community Ministries Director of operational trends and makes recommendations as necessary.</li>
<li>Assists in completing kitchen and janitorial inventory and reports information to the Community Ministries Director.</li>
<li>Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations according to Food Safety regulations.</li>
<li>May have to arrange to discard items that are not usable per policy.</li>
<li>Maintains a clean and organized workspace, including the intake office and food storage room.</li>
<li>Maintains confidentiality with all guests and donor records.</li>
<li>May assist by thanking donors and providing written receipts and thank you cards or letters for all donations as appropriate.</li>
<li>Completes cleaning duties as assigned. (performs “Chore and Duty Log” throughout the workday)</li>
<li>May organize/help with special programs, including Christmas programs, and assist with fundraising as needed.</li>
<li>May assist in the kitchen and as needed.</li>
<li>Oversees/supervises activity during dining times for lunch and Community Feeding programs.</li>
<li>Participates in scheduled job-related training as required.</li>
<li>Communicates all related food allergy information to the Cook.</li>
<li>Communicates with other staff observation/concerns at staff meeting.</li>
<li>Ensures all contact with donors, staff, volunteers, and the general public is courteous and professional.</li>
<li>Always treat guests and co-workers with respect and dignity.</li>
<li>May supervise fellow workers, students, and/or volunteers.</li>
<li>Ensures proper safety precautions and hygiene standards are followed, including Universal Precautions.</li>
<li>May conduct inspection/security checks of property and grounds following policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Compliance with all safety procedures.</li>
<li>Ensures proper lifting, twisting, and reaching techniques are used during job performance.</li>
<li>Performs other job-related duties as assigned and required.</li>
</ul>
<p> HOURS: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 9:00AM-2:00PM</p>
<p> <b>QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:</b></p>
<p> Education, Qualifications and Certifications:</p>
<p> The successful job applicant will have completed the following: </p>
<ul>
<li>Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in a related field.</li>
<li>Food handling training is beneficial.</li>
<li>Alternate combination of education and experience may be considered.</li>
</ul>
<p> Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements</p>
<p> The Incumbent must have the following experience before hiring: </p>
<ul>
<li>At least two years of prior related experience, including experience in a wide range of social service programs and communicating orally and in writing with outside agencies.</li>
</ul>
<p> <b>Skills and Capabilities:</b> </p>
<ul>
<li>The Incumbent is required to lift to 15 pounds.</li>
<li>The job performance requires attentive listening (empathy to guests/volunteers/co-workers) and the ability to give directions.</li>
<li>Requires monitoring of the environment and attentiveness when interacting with guests.</li>
<li>Good team and interpersonal skills.</li>
<li>Good organizational skills.</li>
<li>Fluent in spoken and written English.</li>
<li>Willingness and ability to complete training as required by contract or The Salvation Army.</li>
<li>Willingness and ability to complete WHMIS &; Universal Precautions training (to be completed during probation period).</li>
</ul>
<p> PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:</p>
<p> A valid driver&#8217;s license and clean driver&#8217;s abstract will be considered an asset.</p>
<p> Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide: </p>
<ul>
<li>Background check consent.</li>
<li>A clear vulnerable sector screening.</li>
<li>A clean drivers abstract.</li>
<li>Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.</li>
</ul>
