Chelsea’s FA Cup campaign came to an abrupt end as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brighton, despite taking an early lead at Stamford Bridge.
Cole Palmer handed the Blues a dream start within five minutes when his deflected cross forced a howler from Bart Verbruggen, resulting in an own goal.
However, Brighton responded quickly, with Georginio Rutter heading home a pinpoint Joel Veltman cross just six minutes later.
In the second half, Kauro Mitoma capitalized on Chelsea’s defensive lapse to lift the ball over Robert Sanchez, sealing a remarkable comeback for the Seagulls.
Despite late substitutions by Enzo Maresca, Chelsea failed to regain control, with Christopher Nkunku struggling to make an impact.
The result sees Brighton progress to the fifth round, while Chelsea’s hopes of FA Cup glory are over.
