Job Description
Canada is a rapidly growing segment of Visa’s global business and presents an exciting mix of growth opportunities and challenges. The Canadian Tax Director is an individual contributor overseeing all Canadian tax matters and will be based in Toronto.
Essential Function
- Serve as the Canadian Tax subject matter expert responsible for supporting all tax aspects of Canadian business, including day-to-day tax matters
- Lead all Canadian indirect and general corporate tax matters to support business initiatives and ongoing operations
- Prepare and collaborate with team members to prepare the Canadian tax provision and forecasts
- Lead and collaborate with Visa’s global tax team to ensure all aspects of the Company’s tax audits are effectively managed and provide regular updates regarding audit status
- Advise stakeholders on the impact of ongoing Canadian and relevant global tax legislative developments that impact Visa’s business activities and financial results
- Manage external consultants and oversee outsourced tax compliance activities for Canada
- Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) and lead research and execution on a broad range of tax matters to support planning
- Foster relationships with cross functional teams (e.g., Finance, Legal, HR, Treasury) to ensure complete and timely flow of information to and from Tax for effective resolution of tax issues
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- 10 years of progressive responsibility and leadership in Canadian taxation with a bachelor’s degree, or at least 8 years of experience with an advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Big 4 public accounting firm experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to successfully communicate tax positions to tax authorities and status of tax audits to Tax department and finance leadership
- Experience addressing a broad range tax issues
- Proven record of successful collaboration with tax and finance stakeholder
- Analytical thinker with ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work with ambiguous sets of facts and with minimal supervision
- A bias toward action and continuous improvement
- A desire to develop and manage best practices and processes to continuously drive efficiencies and outcomes
