As a lawyer on the Vialto Partners team, you will join a strong team of dedicated legal professionals in providing Canadian immigration services for our client. As the primary owner of multiple concurrent legal cases, you will play a critical role in enabling our clients’ immigration strategies and supporting their employees in obtaining residence and applicable work authorization in Canada.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

As a lawyer specializing in Canadian corporate immigration law, with a focus on permanent residence applications, you will work as part of a team dedicated to advising, reviewing and filing high priority immigration applications, with responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Interpret laws, case law and regulations to address and solve immigration issues as necessary
  • Manage immigration matters for a high volume of concurrent applicants
  • Review and assess documentation to determine applicants’ eligibility, identify any deficiencies and recommend course of action
  • Execute interviews with clients regarding immigration issues and concerns
  • Provide guidance to applicants and client contacts throughout the application process
  • Manage permanent residence immigration matters for a high volume of concurrent applicants
  • Prepare responses to immigration governing bodies (IRCC,PNP)
  • Provide oversight, direction, and guidance to law clerks in the assessment, preparation, and review of immigration applications
  • Communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing with clients, applicants, and internal colleagues
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of changing immigration laws, regulations, policies and practices and apply this knowledge to varied client and applicant situations
  • Confer with colleagues with specialties in appropriate areas of legal matters and verify bases for legal decisions
  • Apply knowledge strategically and drive improvements
  • Take ownership for own work’s quality, compliance, and technical accuracy
  • Set priorities, develop a work schedule, and closely monitor and track cases
  • Manage multiple priorities in the allocated time and meet deadlines
  • Execute duties with significant attention to detail and maintain high quality standards
  • Handle, manipulate and analyze data and information responsibly
  • Identify and propose recommendations to mitigate risks or issues that arise on active cases
  • Perform administrative and management functions related to immigration matters including keeping databases up to date and maintain file organization in accordance with office and Law Society procedures and requirements
  • Adhere to risk management and compliance procedures
  • Consistently fulfill service commitments and put in additional time whenever required

Qualifications

  • Law degree
  • Canadian Bar (license up to date)
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Up to date knowledge of Canadian immigration practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, procedures,precedents, and government regulations
  • Working experience in Canadian corporate immigration law including permanent residence applications (including Express Entry and PNP-based applications)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated ability and interest in delivering differently, with a focus on client experience and quality deliverables
  • Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and problem problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate integrity, bring escalated issues to the attention of the lawyer
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including in both in person and remote work settings
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure and under strict deadlines
  • An interest in digital upskilling and openness to learning new tools and ways of working
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to share and collaborate effectively with other members of the team
  • French language skills are an asset
  • Flexibility to work outside normal working hours may be required based on volume of work
