A Nigerian business owner cried out after a new staff member fled with the company’s laptop, cash, and borrowed funds from colleagues.
The businessman, identified as @0xYinka on X, expressed frustration over the unexpected betrayal. According to him, the accountant, who had only worked for a month, blocked everyone before making away with valuables.
“In the hospitality business, there is nothing you can do to 100% curb theft… These thieves are smart af,” he lamented.
He detailed how the suspect, Aderibigbe Eniola Samson, stole petty cash amounting to ₦150,000 from the company’s drawer, borrowed ₦50,000 from different staff members, and retrieved his guarantor’s form from the safe.
Further exposing the theft, @0xYinka revealed that the staff member unplugged the store’s CCTV before making his move. However, after being called out, the suspect responded via email, admitting to taking cash but claiming the laptop was taken “by mistake.”
In his email, the runaway staff pleaded for time to return the laptop and promised to repay the stolen funds, citing personal struggles as the reason for his actions.
Despite his plea, the businessman is determined to ensure the culprit faces consequences, stating, “Since he wants to be popular, I will give him fame.”
