Atletico Madrid are positioning themselves to capitalise on Manchester United’s anticipated summer overhaul, with interest in Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho emerging as top priorities, The Athletic reports.
Following a disastrous season under Ruben Amorim, leading in a UEFA Europa League final defeat to Tottenham and United’s lowest-ever Premier League finish, several high-profile exits are expected.
Amorim has already placed transfer valuations on multiple players, including Barcelona-linked Marcus Rashford, Real Betis loanee Antony, and England winger Jadon Sancho.
Of particular note is the situation surrounding Alejandro Garnacho.
Despite being viewed as a long-term asset, Amorim has reportedly told the 20-year-old Argentine that he can leave.
Diego Simeone, a known admirer and fellow countryman, is keen to bring the winger back to Madrid, where Garnacho spent five years in the Atletico academy before joining United in 2020.
Atletico may struggle to meet United’s reported £70 million valuation for Garnacho, but are banking on United’s urgency to sell and the player’s inconsistent form under Amorim to negotiate a reduced fee.
Jadon Sancho is also viewed as a viable reinforcement, particularly with his Old Trafford career effectively over.
