Social media commentator Martins Otse, known as Verydarkman or VDM, has joined fellow Nigerians in responding to the viral video featuring suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan at the United Nations in New York.
Natasha has gained significant attention on social media following her report to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) regarding her situation with the Nigerian Senate and Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, March 11.
It is important to note that the Senate suspended Natasha for breaching its regulations shortly after she filed a petition against Akpabio, alleging sexual assault among other claims, which the Senate President has denied.
During the Women in Parliament session at the IPU meeting at the United Nations, Natasha advocated for justice and called for the involvement of international democratic institutions, asserting that she has been subjected to injustice.
She further characterized her suspension from the Senate as illegal.
VDM’s Response to Natasha’s UN move
A social media commentator commended Natasha for advocating for herself and representing the voices of young girls in the nation, yet criticized her decision to escalate the matter to the United Nations.
VDM expressed that Natasha’s action of reporting the Nigerian Senate to an organization that lacks the authority to intervene effectively demonstrates that she is surrounded by misguided advisers.
He remarked that the UN could potentially summon the Senate President, who may choose not to respond.
“You are chasing shadows, the UN you went to report to cannot do anything,” he said in the video.
Verydarkman further suggested that Natasha should gather a supportive team to assist her in her struggle against the injustices she faces.
In the video caption, VDM noted:
