What you need to know:

Reporting to the UK CFO, the UK Financial Controller will have direct responsibility and accountability for timely and accurate delivery of UK financial statements and analytics, along with maintenance of a robust controls environment.

This is a high-profile role in our business that will lead the Controllership function and associated teams covering UK financial operations, US GAAP close activities, expense management, financial systems, internal and external reporting. This role will also have oversight of the overall control environment and associated SOX reporting deliverables, preparation of financial statements, and all external regulatory reporting requirements and responses to the PRA and other regulators.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • In conjunction with Functional reporting areas, produce quarterly trial balance submissions and related contributions to external reporting, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and all financial SEC requirements.
  • Build partnerships with Finance leadership team, including international CFOs, Controllers, reinsurance operations, FP&A, investor relations and business leads.
  • Serve as a trusted liaison in problem solving and issue resolution, as well as facilitating seamless communication between functional teams, regional teams and Finance.
  • Analyze financial results and provide quarterly analytics to senior management and external auditors.
  • Continually transform and improve processes to reduce cycle time and improve accuracy.
  • Support systems and process implementations in and other transformation initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and insight to key financial reporting standard implementations, such as LDTI, IFRS 17 and IFRS 9.
  • Design and ensure operation of internal controls around the financial reporting processes.
  • Assess and maintain a target operating model for Controllership function.
  • Prepare and present financial results and statements to the UK Board and Executive Committees.
  • Support the UK CFO, representing Finance on the Executive Leadership team and other forums as required
  • Manage relationship with Chair of the Audit Committee and accountable for associated finance related reporting and governance requirements
  • Embed and manage rigorous Finance related SLA’s and Operating Metrics with the Offshore Service Centre, and manage key relationships
  • Key Finance representative on Committees and non-insurance entity Boards.
  • Prepare annual audited financial statements for International Holding Company under the Swiss Code of Obligations, ensuring that audited financial statements are approved timely in accordance with Swiss law.

What we’re looking for:

  • Qualified CPA/ ACA or equivalent with a proven track record in a leadership role within the insurance industry.
  • Strong operational experience with US GAAP.
  • Demonstrated strong business and financial acumen as well as advanced change management and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated past success at creating or significantly upgrading a Controllership function and instilling a culture of continuous process improvement.
  • Highly influential and able to flex leadership style according to the situation.
  • Extensive experience of effective stakeholder management, including board committees and regulators.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation development and delivery.
  • Aptitude to multitask, handling multiple projects simultaneously.
