A young Nigerian lady, Cynthia Chizoba Oguzie, has tragically lost her life after a water tank collapsed into her room in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
The heartbreaking incident, which has left family and friends in deep mourning, indicated that the overhead tank crashed through the ceiling of her apartment while she was inside.
A relative of the deceased, Chukwuebuka Nathaniel Kanayochukwu, took to Facebook to share the devastating news and call attention to what he described as a careless and poorly constructed water tank structure.
“Beware of Lekki buildings and their water stands. This is how they sent my sister to her early grave. Thank you, so-called Lekki landlord and your engineer, for doing this type of water stand,” he wrote.
He further revealed that the landlord, who reportedly lives outside Nigeria, claimed that the houses were built based solely on images and videos sent to him by an engineer.
Photos and tributes have since surfaced online, as sympathizers express anger and sorrow over the shocking incident.
Many have also raised questions about the structural integrity of buildings in parts of Lekki, where rapid real estate development has sometimes been linked to poor construction standards.
