Nigeria international Tyronne Ebuehi made his long-awaited return to action on Sunday, featuring in Empoli’s goalless Serie A draw against Cagliari after 387 days out through injury.
The 28-year-old fullback last played on March 15, 2024, before suffering a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.
He picked up the injury during a league fixture against Bologna, which forced him to miss several months of action, including international duty.
After spending three consecutive matches on the bench, Ebuehi was introduced in the 65th minute, replacing Junior Sambia.
His return proved impactful as Empoli secured their first clean sheet in Serie A since November 4, 2024.
Speaking after the match, Ebuehi expressed his relief and satisfaction at returning to the pitch, describing the past year as difficult but affirming his readiness to contribute to the team’s survival push.
Empoli remain in relegation trouble, sitting 18th in the table and two points adrift of safety with seven matches remaining in the campaign.
