Company: Irwin Mitchell

Job description: We’re a national law firm with a local reach. Our philosophy is ‘Expert Hand, Human Touch’ – something you’ll find in the way we work with our clients and how we support our teams. But, we’re more than just a law firm – we’re a team, working together to help individuals and businesses navigate life’s ups and downs.

Whichever team you join, working here you’ll feel a part of our friendly and inclusive environment. We’ll value you for who you are and what you bring. We support each other and push boundaries to achieve incredible things, and make a real difference to our clients and communities.

The work we do has been recognised in the awards we’ve won. We’re committed to being even better, and our awards help to show we’re on the right track.

We recognise that the office 9-5 isn’t for everyone. That’s why we’ve introduced ‘Flexible by Choice’. Whether it’s working from home, in our offices, or a combination of the both, we trust each other to support our clients, colleagues and communities at the right time, in the right way.

Your Role and What You’ll Be Doing

Head, spinal cord and other serious injuries, such as those resulting in amputation, blindness and orthopaedic treatment, can be life changing. Serious injuries affect our clients in different ways such as their family life, employment opportunities, healthcare needs and everyday quality of life. These claims are by nature hugely traumatic and have to be handled with the utmost care and expertise. Our serious injury solicitors pride themselves on making a real difference and we can help clients to live their life as fully as possible after a serious injury. We have years of experience helping people claim compensation for serious injuries and have specialist teams across the UK.

You’ll join our highly specialist neuro team in our Leeds office, specialising in pursuing claims following serious brain and spinal cord injury. The cases the team pursues are often very complex and involve large amounts of money. Rehabilitation is always at the forefront of the team’s mind, and they aim to get their clients the help they need when they need it. This normally involves sorting out help with care and getting the client the therapies they need such as physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy.

Equipment/transport/housing/employment and education are some of the other issues that the team look at during the course of the claim. Compensation can never turn the clock back, but it can enable clients to have a decent quality of life again and reduce or eliminate the stress placed upon their loved ones.

“I like the fact that the staff of Irwin Mitchell genuinely care for their clients and always try to put the client’s needs first” – Carolyn Heaton, head of the neuro team in Leeds.

You will predominantly assist either a partner in the team or a senior associate learning on the job as you go along and once you are up and running you will be able to take a more proactive approach and deal with the day to day running of various cases. In time, you will have the opportunity to train and mentor others in your team, and we’ll provide you with the support and direction to help you do this.
