 Position Summary/Purpose of Position:</p>
<p> Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the Senior Director of Development, Do Good will be responsible for meeting the fundraising objectives of the UMD Do Good Campus. The Senior Director will actively manage a portfolio of major gift and principal gift prospects, most of whom will have the ability to give $50,000 or more. The incumbent of this position will be expected to achieve metrics of visits, solicitations, granted proposals and dollars raised which are commensurate with position expectations and other development directors at UMD.</p>
<p> With a dotted line reporting structure to the office of the Senior Vice President and Provost of UMD, as well as the Do Good Institute and the School of Public Policy, the Senior Director of Development serves as a lead fundraiser for the Do Good Campus and Do Good Institute. In addition to an aggressive five year fundraising goal, the Senior Director will have responsibility for maintaining a frequent meeting cadence with the Do Good Institute, formulating and executing an integrated program of development strategies to maximize philanthropic support for Do Good Campus. These efforts will be created in support of, and aligned with the goals of, the Provost, the Do Good Campus Strategic Leadership Council, the Do Good Institute, and the Development team in the School of Public Policy. As a collaborative partner, the Senior Director will become a subject matter expert on the Do Good Campus and the Do Good Institute.</p>
<p> The Senior Director will apply knowledge and understanding of the University of Maryland and its development units, its traditions, programs, campus issues, needs and priorities relevant to the development process. They must be able to persuasively discuss academic programs, experiential learning programs, philanthropic opportunities and priorities with prospective donors and volunteers to successfully solicit and close gifts on behalf of the Do Good Campus and Do Good Institute.</p>
<p> Collaboration with all UMD academic colleges/schools, constituent groups, campus colleagues, faculty and administrators is essential to the success of this role. The Senior Director will work with fundraising colleagues in University Relations and other campus schools and units, particularly the School of Public Policy, to develop strategies for joint solicitations and to negotiate competing priorities, including issues of donor intent and operational feasibility or capacity.</p>
<p> This position must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed. Frequent local travel, and occasional national travel is required (up to 50%). The Senior Director will serve as a member of the central University Relations Development &; Alumni Relations team and as a frontline fundraiser.<br />

<p><b>Experience:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Minimum of 8 years of successful fundraising, membership development, external relations or sales experience.</li>
<li>Experience working with high-level individual donors and corporate/foundation representatives; building donor/customer and prospect relationships and developing stewardship activities.</li>
<li>Experience soliciting and closing gifts of six figures or more.</li>
<li>Experience writing proposals, grants and/or sponsorship materials.</li>
<li>Experience creating philanthropic case studies and donor proposals.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Ability to work with a diverse portfolio of corporations, foundations, and individual donors of varying socio-economic strata.</li>
<li>Understanding of a successful stewardship program.</li>
<li>Ability to liaise across campus, with different academic schools and departments.</li>
<li>Ability to represent the University in a highly professional, collaborative, and effective manner. Interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.</li>
<li>Ability to synthesize complex material and have great attention to detail.</li>
<li>Ability to manage many projects simultaneously, and a demonstrated record of completing assignments. Strong customer service ethic.</li>
<li>Ability to work with diverse groups of constituents and colleagues.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Preferences:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Master&#8217;s degree.</li>
<li>Experience working with senior executives, volunteers, senior administration, and faculty.</li>
<li>Understanding of, and commitment to, the values and role of a public, research university.</li>
<li>Experience in working with highly technical information.</li>
<li>Experience in higher education and/or industry.</li>
<li>Experience managing contact reports within CRMs such as Advance and/or Salesforce.</li>
