Sacked AC Milan manager Paulo Fonseca attributed his team’s inability to win against AS Roma on Sunday to the injury of winger Samuel Chukwueze.

Chukwueze, who started the match and delivered an impressive performance, was forced off the pitch in the 62nd minute due to injury.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw, Fonseca emphasized the impact of the 25-year-old’s exit on Milan’s gameplay.

“In the first half, we created several chances to score with a fair attitude from the players,” Fonseca said.

“But with Chukwueze’s exit, we lost a lot and took a lot of risks. We deserved to win but missed many chances.”

Fonseca sacked; Conceição to take over

Following the disappointing draw, AC Milan announced the sacking of Fonseca on Monday morning.

Reports indicate the club have appointed former Porto coach Sergio Conceição as his replacement on a six-month deal, with an option to extend until 2026.

Conceição is expected to arrive in Milan on Monday afternoon to finalize his takeover.

The Portuguese tactician is anticipated to bring a fresh approach as Milan look to revive their Serie A campaign.
