Robin van Persie has been officially appointed as Feyenoord’s new head coach, marking his first major managerial role in Dutch football.
The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker replaces Brian Pliske, who was dismissed earlier this month.
Van Persie, 41, takes charge just days after Feyenoord knocked AC Milan out of the Champions League. He has signed a contract running until mid-2027.
Expressing his excitement, Van Persie told the club’s website: “Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is.
“I am really looking forward to working with the players and staff at 1908, playing matches in De Kuip, and achieving success together with the fans.”
Despite being in his first year of management, Van Persie has already impressed, leading Heerenveen to ninth in the Eredivisie before his appointment.
Now, he faces the challenge of guiding Feyenoord in their title chase and preparing for a Champions League last-16 clash with Inter Milan.
His first match in charge will be against NEC Nijmegen on Saturday, as Feyenoord, currently third in the league, aim to close the gap on the leaders.
