Job description: Under the USAID Inclusive Development Activity for Mission Support, Making Cents International is leading an Inclusive Development Analysis (IDA) in Nigeria. The purpose of the analysis is to help USAID/Nigeria identify inclusion gaps in existing activities and develop a road map for improving inclusiveness and equity across its portfolio. The analysis will also help identify macro- and sectoral-level social inequalities and barriers that impede marginalized and underserved groups from accessing basic services.

To support the IDA, Making Cents is recruiting multiple Researchers to contribute to data collection, data analysis and reporting activities. The Researchers will be supervised by the Deputy Team Lead. Some travel within Nigeria is anticipated.

Role and Tasks

The Researchers’ tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Review relevant background materials prior to the start of data collection activities.
  • Lead interviews with stakeholders and key informants and oversee focus groups, producing detailed field notes (and where permitted, audio recordings)
  • Work with the IDA team to compile findings and conduct analysis
  • Contribute to the preparation of a preliminary USAID/Nigeria-wide presentation based on the preliminary findings and draft recommendations
  • Collaborate with the team to draft the IDA report in English and in accordance with established deadlines
  • Participate in team meetings and briefings, as needed.

Proposed Level of Effort and Work Schedule:

Estimated maximum Level of Effort will be 15 days for each Researcher between February – June 2024.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently based in Nigeria; Nigerian citizens preferred
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field and at least 2 years of experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least 5 years of experience OR a High School Diploma and at least 20 years of experience
  • Experience facilitating interviews and focus groups, including with historically marginalized or vulnerable groups and individuals
  • Excellent English notetaking and writing skills
  • Prior experience contributing to data collection and data analysis activities and writing reports in English; experience doing so on similar projects or subjects highly preferred
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Fluency in English and another language commonly used in Nigeria
  • Experience working with and/or for historically marginalized or vulnerable groups preferred
