<p>The <strong>Presidency</strong> has publicly apologised for mistakenly including Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Dr. Edwin Madunagu, both of whom are still alive, in the Posthumous Honours list announced during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Democracy Day address at the National Assembly.</p>
<p>The error, which sparked immediate public attention and confusion, occurred on Thursday as <strong>President Tinubu honoured several pro-democracy activists and national figures who contributed to Nigeria’s democratic journey.</strong></p>
<p>In a statement released hours later, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, admitted the error and assured Nigerians that steps were being taken to correct the mistake across all official platforms.</p>
<p><em>“Under the Posthumous Award category, the names of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the Afenifere leader, and Dr. Edwin Madunagu were incorrectly included. Both distinguished individuals are very much alive and, therefore, should not have appeared in the posthumous category</em>,” Onanuga stated.</p>
<p>He described the incident as an “oversight” and emphasized the administration’s commitment to correcting the records promptly.</p>
<p><em>“We sincerely regret this oversight. We shall make the necessary corrections across all State House digital platforms.</em> <em>We appreciate your understanding,</em><em>”</em> the statement added.</p>
<p>The Democracy Day event had recognised numerous individuals for their roles in Nigeria’s return to democracy, with several receiving both living and posthumous honours.</p>
