Andre Onana is set to remain Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper for the 2025/26 season, ending the club’s interest in Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

Despite persistent calls for a new No.1 following a string of high-profile errors, the Cameroonian is expected to keep his place under new manager Ruben Amorim, according to Express Sport.

United’s transfer priorities have shifted, with a limited budget forcing the club to focus on more pressing squad deficiencies rather than replacing the £48m goalkeeper.

Amorim, who is overseeing a sweeping rebuild at Old Trafford, is reportedly content to retain Onana, alongside back-up options Altay Bayindir and veteran Tom Heaton.

The latter is now in line for a one-year contract extension.

Onana’s performances over two inconsistent campaigns in England have drawn criticism, but the 29-year-old remains determined to re-establish himself as a reliable presence between the sticks.

Club insiders reportedly believe offloading him would create more disruption than benefit, particularly with key reinforcements needed elsewhere on the pitch.
