Mother fears son's 'werewolf syndrome' linked to eating cat during pregnancy
Mother fears son’s ‘werewolf syndrome’ due to eating cat in pregnancy.

The mother, Alma, initially believed her pregnancy cravings for wild cats led to Jaren’s condition.

She recalled eating a wild cat during her pregnancy, a dish common in her remote mountain region.

However, medical professionals later confirmed that Jaren’s condition was not related to Alma’s diet but was instead an extremely rare genetic syndrome.

Despite facing superstitions and local beliefs about curses, Alma sought medical help for Jaren.

Doctors diagnosed him with hypertrichosis, a condition affecting only a handful of people worldwide since the Middle Ages.

Alma worries about Jaren’s future, especially regarding potential bullying due to his appearance.

She described him as a happy and playful child but mentioned his discomfort during hot weather due to itchy rashes caused by his condition.

Seeking treatment, Alma consulted with a dermatologist who recommended laser hair removal sessions, albeit at a significant cost for the family.

Each session would cost 2,500 Philippine Pesos (£35), prompting Alma to appeal for assistance.

Despite the challenges, Alma remains hopeful that with support, Jaren can lead a better life.
