Former Tottenham Hotspur and Egyptian international striker Ahmed ‘Mido’ Hossam has stirred up controversy with strong remarks about football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, claiming that the Portuguese forward overwhelms the authority of any coach he works with.
In comments shared via Kooora, Mido argued that Ronaldo’s commanding presence and outspoken personality make him difficult for top-tier managers to handle; an issue, he said, that distinguishes him from more coach-compatible stars like Karim Benzema.
“Ronaldo’s problem is that he cancels out the personality of any coach he works with, unlike other players like [Karim] Benzema. Benzema is also a great player, but he gives the coach his due and respect, and knows his role well,” Mido stated.
He went further, suggesting that even elite coaches would think twice before agreeing to manage a team led by Ronaldo.
“I challenge any major coach to find someone who would want to work with Ronaldo or welcome leading Al-Nassr in his presence,” he added.
The former Juventus and Real Madrid forward, who currently captains Saudi club Al-Nassr, is reportedly eyeing a move away after hinting that his time in the Saudi Pro League may be coming to an end. Mido implied this as further proof of Ronaldo’s dwindling options in top-level football.
“Ronaldo came to Al-Nassr after European clubs closed their doors to him. Even Simone Inzaghi [Inter Milan manager], if offered to coach Al-Nassr while Cristiano [Ronaldo] was present, wouldn’t accept,” Mido added.
Ronaldo’s past disputes with coaches, most notably Erik ten Hag during his final months at Manchester United, have often made headlines. His outspoken approach, while admired by many fans, has raised concerns about his impact on team dynamics and coaching authority.
