Despite playing with 10 men late on, Arne Slot’s side still secured a direct route to the last 16.

One bright spot for the Reds was Federico Chiesa, who delivered a standout performance.

The Italian winger, often plagued by injuries, played the full 95 minutes and was Liverpool’s most dangerous player.

He won the penalty that Cody Gakpo converted for the opening goal and later forced Walter Benítez into a save that led to Harvey Elliott’s tap-in.

However, defensive struggles cost Liverpool, with Johan Bakayoko leveling the score before Ismael Saibari and Ricardo Pepi capitalized on errors from Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah.

A late red card for Amara Nallo, making his debut, added to the drama, but the result did not affect Liverpool’s qualification.

The Reds will now turn their attention to the last 16, where they will face either Brest, Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain, or Benfica.
