<p> The successful applicant will manage a diverse and large case load of files in all jurisdictions across Canada, and serve as the legal partner for Canadian Human Resources. The successful applicant has strong interpersonal skills and is a talented negotiator and mediator, with the right balance of assertiveness and the ability to make quick, sound legal decisions. The ideal lawyer for this role will be willing to work in other areas of the law and provide legal support on an as needed basis for a wide variety of other areas, such as: transactional work, compliance and regulatory issues, and new product support.</p>
<p><b>Duties and Responsibilities:</b></p>
<p> Oversee all Canadian litigation activities related to the Company, managing each case from inception through to disposition, and managing external counsel as required.</p>
<p> Work with outside counsel for cases outside of Ontario that cannot be resolved through negotiation or mediation and must be sent for advancement through the courts.</p>
<p> Work closely with the Human Resources department on all aspects relating to labour and employment law in Canada, including but not limited to; drafting employment agreements, drafting policies, advising on terminations and disciplines, collective bargaining agreement interpretation, and reviewing and responding to labour grievances.</p>
<p> Overseeing the progress and managing the costs and outcomes of all outside counsel files</p>
<p> Drafting and negotiating of customer and vendor contracts in relation to settlements</p>
<p><b>Other duties as assigned</b></p>
<p><b>Skills &; Qualifications:</b></p>
<p> 4-6 years of experience in commercial litigation</p>
<p> Strong interpersonal and communication skills</p>
<p> Achieving resolution through negotiation</p>
<p> Demonstrated experience with effective mediation</p>
<p> Ability to deal with a substantial caseload</p>
<p> Membership in good standing with the Ontario Bar</p>
<p> Employment law experience is an asset</p>
<p> French language is an asset</p>
<p> Experience in transactional work is an asset</p>
